We recently sat down with Toronto native Canoopsy to talk about being a creator in the tech/lifestyle space and his love for the iconic Koss Porta Pro.
For those who don’t know you, tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do.
Hi! My name is Isaac, more commonly known as Canoopsy. I make tech and lifestyle content on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter.
For you, where does tech and lifestyle intersect?
What really excites me about technology is seeing how people actually use it. I don't care about numbers, benchmarks, and specifications... I want to see what you can do with a piece of technology. Show me what you can make with that phone or laptop or tablet or camera.
I want to hear about how it makes your life better or even just why it makes you happy. That's what makes me happy, and that's what my work is all about.
The Koss Porta Pro has been a huge part of your lifestyle and personal style; why does that headphone hold such value to you?
The Porta Pro is really special to me, because it's an intersection of everything I love.
It combines tech + art + fashion + culture.
Those are the fundamental pillars of everything I make, and to see all those things in a product I use every day... man, it's a beautiful thing.
What is best part about being a creator in the tech space?
Oh there are soooo many great parts about being a creator in this space. Being able to meet so many wonderful viewers and fans, trying out the latest tech products, experimenting with different video formats, it's wonderful, really.
What’s the hardest part?
Honestly being a creator can be overwhelming. I run my business all myself, and sometimes all the things I'm responsible for can catch up with me.
Handling the day to day business, accounting, communication, and administrative work on top of actually making content can really be stressful sometimes.
Additionally, there's so much more I want to make and experiment with, and even having so many ideas but not enough time to execute them stresses me out. Eventually I hope to find a better balance.
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I'm still tryna find out what I don't know about myself. Will keep you posted boss.
You have very unique, minimalist aesthetic, is that a mantra that creeps into every part of your day to day life?
Really interesting question.... the more I think about it, not really?
I just try to surround myself with people and objects I really like, and naturally my work and aesthetic is influenced by my environment.
Whether it's friends, art, music, products, or furniture, these all contribute to helping me shape my own style.
If you weren’t making tech videos what else would you be doing?
Making other art!
I've been in the art and design space for as long as I can remember, and if video & photo content for YouTube and other social channels wasn't my focus, I'm sure I'd be making art in a different capacity and style.
You currently live in Toronto, what unique aspects about creating in that city allow you to stand out as a creator in an otherwise objectively overly-saturated genre that is the tech space?
Toronto is an incredibly inspiring place full of some of the world's best creatives. I'm honored to be able to work with and alongside artists & creators in a variety of different creative genres outside of the tech space.
I feel like having this exposure to different mediums and mindsets is what helps me stand out in my own niche.
Additionally, the city has this vibe and rhythm to it. It's incredibly unique, and I try to convey that feeling in the work I do. Where can people find you? I'm @Canoopsy everywhere! :)
